Barcelona made an attempt for Chelsea ace Eden Hazard before Christmas, it has been revealed.
El Mundo Deportivo says with Liverpool proving stubborn in negotiations over Philippe Coutinho, Barca made a serious play for Hazard ahead of the January market opening.
Barca made contact with Hazard’s camp and also asked Chelsea about a price for the Belgium international.
However, when Liverpool relented and agreed to reopen talks for Coutinho, Barca pulled back from their contact with Chelsea. The Catalans never reached the point of tabling an offer for Hazard.
Instead, Barca agreed a fee rising to €160m with Liverpool for Coutinho.
