Everton wants former Chelsea midfielder Mikel

Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi is on the rader of Merseyside club Everton who are planning a shock move for the experienced midfielder in January.

Everton have enjoyed rejuvenation since former England boss Sam Allardyce took over the helm of affairs at the club.

“Yes, he has many teams interested – almost three clubs in England want him, including Everton,” a source close to the player told 90minutesgoal.com

“You know Mikel is in the prime of his career and his next contract may likely be his last – so getting it right will be very important,” the source concluded.

Allardyce is set to meet with his players in a bid to question their desire to still stick with the club and has promised to sell players who are surplus to requirements to create space for fresh legs.

Mikel, 30, currently plays for Chinese side Tiajin Teda in the Chinese Super League and currently earns £190,000 a week in China.

Mikel spent 10 years in Chelsea, playing 374 times for them and winning 11 trophies including two Premier League titles and a Champions League in 2012.

His current deal with his Chinese club will expire in 2019.
