Stoke not interested in signing Ighalo – Hughes

Stoke City manager, Mark Hughes has dismissed reports linking him with a January move for former Watford striker, Odion Ighalo.

Igahlo, who currently plays in China was linked with a move back to the Premier League and Stoke City was prominently mentioned. But Hughes, despite a shortage of goals among his strikers, poured cold water on the possibility of having the Super Eagles striker in his squad.

“We get linked with lots of names,” Hughes said this morning. “I’m not sure that’s one that’s got much traction, to be perfectly honest.

“But Hughes hinted at moves in the January window as he assesses the strength of his team heading towards the second half of their 10th campaign in the Premier League. We are constantly compiling potential targets,” he continued. “There’s nothing definite as yet. It’s still quite early. Nothing to report as yet.”

On the injury front, Hughes said Xherdan Shaqiri should be fit for tomorrow’s trip to Crystal Palace after he was withdrawn as a precaution at Brighton on Monday because of stiffness in his leg.
