Aiyegbeni quits professional football

Former Super Eagles striker, Yakubu Aiyegbeni has called it a quit to professional football at the age of 35.

Aiyegbeni made the announcement on Wednesday after a glorious outing for both club and country.

Yakubu has scored 21 goals in his 57 appearances for Nigeria since his 2000 debut. He is currently the third highest ever international goalscorer for Nigeria.

He played in the Africa Cup of Nations twice (2002 and 2004) and 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, where he will always be remembered for missing a seater against South Korea.

Aiyegbeni represented Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Everton , Leicester City, Blackburn Rovers , Reading and Coventry, with a combined total of 141 goals being scored at those seven clubs. He also played for Maccabi Haifa he scored 13 times in 22 games (League season was 33 matches).
