Iheanacho in action as Leicester beat Everton 2-0

Kelechi Iheanacho came on as a late substitute as Leicester City secured a 2-0 win over Everton in their Premier League clash at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.

First-half goals from Jamie Vardy who later was replaced by Iheanacho and another from Demarai Gray was enough to give the new Leicester City coach a perfect start.

Claude Puel was only appointed as Leicester manager on Wednesday but his new side made light work of  Everton, who remain in the Premier League relegation zone, to move up to 11th.

Leicester began the game on the front foot and threatened after only four minutes when Demarai Gray raced forward and sent a low drive just wide from outside the area.

But Puel’s team had the lead they deserved with 18 minutes gone thanks to Jamie Vardy, who put the finishing touch to a swift counter involving Gray and Riyad Mahrez, and doubled it thanks to an own goal by young right-back Jonjoe Kenny with less than half an hour played.

Aaron Lennon felt he had been fouled inside the penalty area as David Unsworth’s Everton tried to muster a response, but the referee waved away their appeals, and Kevin Mirallas lashed wide.

This latest defeat leaves Everton in the relegation zone having taken just eight points from their opening 10 games, while Leicester climbed to 11th.
