Super Eagles coach Salisu Yusuf has predicted a tough match against hosts Ghana when they meet on Sunday.
Nigeria face Ghana in the final of the Wafu Cup on Sunday, and despite having already beaten the defending champions 2-0 during the group stages of the competition, the Nigeria coach has admitted it will be tough to beat the Ghanaians a second time.
“It will be very difficult task to beat Ghana a second time, but we hope not to disappoint the country,” he said.
“They want to win, but we also want to win and we’re optimistic.
“We do not plan to change our tactics much against them tomorrow, but we know they will come out fighting in front of their fans.”
Kano Pillars star midfielder Rabiu Ali’s 11th minute strike sunk Benin on Thursday, just as he also scored the opening goal against the same team in a CHAN qualifier return leg in his hometown of Kano.
And Salisu has taken time out to praise some of his top performers at the sub-regional tournament, goalkeeper and skipper Ikechukwu Ezenwa as well as semi-final match winner Rabiu Ali.
“Rabiu is experienced, plays regularly for his club and he has over many seasons proved to be a consistent scorer,” he remarked.
“He also brings stability to our midfield.”
“Ezenwa has been doing well for the team since the CHAN qualifiers and was Man of the Match against Sierra Leone here,” he saluted the shot stopper, who has posted four clean sheets at the WAFU Cup.
“He has given confidence to the defence and the entire team.
“And overall, the team have shown character and commitment especially considering our preparation for the tournament and now we are in the final.”
