Nigeria 0-2 South Africa: Super Eagles Fall To Bafana’s Firepower

By Augustine Akhilomen

Super Eagles began their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on a losing note after the team lost 2-0 to Bafana Bafana of South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday.

The team had little or no chance to trouble the South Africans in the first half as the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi and Simon Moses failed to create goal scoring opportunities.

Bafana took the lead in the  55th minute through Rantie Tokelo’s beautiful header before Percy Tau extended the visitor’s lead in the 82nd minute to hand South Africa the maximum points.

It was Bafana Bafana’s first win over the Super Eagles in a competitive team and will now lead Group E on three points.

Interestingly, this will also be Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr’s first defeat since being employed by the Nigeria Football Federation in 2016.
