Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel is down with injury and he is a major doubt to feature in Tianjin TEDA’s Chinese Super League clash against Chongqing Dangdai Lifan FC on Sunday.
As reported on sports.enorth.com.cn, Mikel has not been able to attend training with the rest of his teammates for days now due to a muscle strain.
The former Chelsea star who has featured in Tianjin TEDA’s first two games in the Chinese Super League is reportedly undergoing a traditional Chinese acupuncture treatment to hasten his return to action.
Mikel’s coach Jamie Pacheo told sports.enorth.com.cn: “For Mikel also it is difficult to participate in the weekend and Lifan’s game, but fortunately the Serbian international Goodyear is back.
“If he was still with Chelsea, the injury may be for about three or four weeks, but in TEDA ten days or so he will resume training, and simply fast.”
While Mikel is out, his compatriot Brown Ideye is expected to lead Tianjin TEDA’s chase for goals as they gun for their first win this season in the CSL.
