Kelechi Iheanacho has said Manchester City need to show the same fighting spirit they produced against Liverpool when they face Arsenal this weekend.
City go into Sunday’s game at the Emirates in third, two points behind Tottenham in second place but with Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal in hot pursuit as the race to finish inside the Champions League places intensifies.
The Nigerian striker, 20, says there is huge determination within the Blues squad to beat Arsenal and believes the team are in a good moment after their 1-1 draw with Liverpool last time out.“We are going to go to the Emirates and fight,” he said.
“We need a win there. It’s a good team, so we need to fight hard to get three points.
“We are in a good situation. We played well against Liverpool and showed good character.
“We defend well, we attack well, but unfortunately we couldn’t win.“We are in a good position in the Premier League, we keep fighting and focus on the next games.”
Iheanacho has scored seven goals this season but with increased competition in attacking areas, he has found first-team opportunities harder to come by than during his debut campaign.
But the striker says he is loving being at City and feels he is constantly improving by playing alongside a squad of top-class players.“I’m very happy and very grateful to be in this team,” he said.
“I keep working hard every day and when I get my chance I haveto prove to everyone I need to be in the squad.
“It’s a great squad with great players. Everyone is working really hard, so everyone should be happy being in this team.
“It’s a great team. The supporters give us everything so We need to keep fighting for the team and the fans.
“I am improving every day. I keep learning and improving and that will help me in the future.
“I love it here.”
