Barcelona pull greatest comeback in CL history with 6-1 win over PSG

Barcelona celebrate Sergi Roberto’s late winner vs PSG

History is rewritten, Barcelona believed and it paid off.. Luis Enrique’s men pulled arguably the greatest comeback in football history as they beat Paris Saint-Germain 6-1 at the Camp Nou in their 2016/2017 UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg tie, turning around a 4-0 first leg deficit, the first time it has happened in the history of the competition.

Logically, Barça had no chance, UEFA’s researched showed they had 0% chance of progressing but against all odds, the best team in the world shocked the entire universe. A brace from Neymar along with goals from Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Sergi Roberto ensured Barcelona get the exact result they needed to progress as they ran out 6-1 winners after Edinson Cavani grabbed a goal in the second half, Barça progressed to the quarter final 6-5 on aggregate.

Barcelona wasted no time to show their intentions as Luis Suarez scored just 3 minutes into the game after PSG defenders made a mess of Rafinha’s cross into the box. Barça took over the game from the start, dominated in all aspect and a huge percentage of the game was played in PSG’s half but there were no real chances.. Messi came close with a free kick while Neymar had a shot an inch wide.

The Brazilian was crucial few minutes later as his pass in the PSG box wasn’t handled well by PSG and it gave Iniesta the chance to pull a sweet backheel that was turned in by Kurzawa, an own-goal, Barça 2-0 up after 40 minutes, the dream is intact.

The second half started and Barça didn’t stop, Neymar won a penalty which Messi smashed in on 50 minutes to make it 3-0 with his 11th goal of the campaign… Comeback on!

That goal made PSG improve and they started going more forward, Cavani then hit the post later on but he wouldn’t be denied on the 63rd minute as he seemingly ended all Barça’s hope of coming back by firing a fantastic finish past Ter Stegen to make it 3-1. It looked like it was all over.

Barça had Ter Stegen to thank moments later as Cavani was in a one-on-one situation with him but the German pulled a super save..

All emotions died, but the Camp Nou still stood strong behind their team, not a single empty sit and with two minutes left to play, Neymar bent in a freekick to make it 4-1. It was deemed as “too late” but then Suarez won a penalty two minutes later which Neymar converted to make it 5-1 for Barça, a result still not sufficient for qualification as Barça needed one more goal.

The Camp Nou believed again, and Barça did it. All Barça players including Ter Stegen were in PSG’s third to grab the all important winner. Funnily, Ter Stegen then won a free kick inside the PSG half… Neymar got hold of it and swung a cross inside the box which was met with a full stretch by substitute Sergi Roberto who scored with seconds to go… The Camp Nou went crazy, it was historic… It was mindblowing!!! By the way, you could check back our prediction in the preview to this game, we predicted 6-1, we believed too… Visca Barça!
