FC Porto include Chidozie in Champions League squad

Portuguese giants FC Porto have included Nigeria defender Chidozie Awaziem in their updated UEFA Champions League squad, although, the youngster have only been included in the B list.

Awaziem, 20, has been added to the roaster by the former European champions ahead of the start of the knockout stages of the competition.

UEFA’s rule on player placement on the B list states: “A player must be registered on the List B if they are born on or after January 1 1995 and has been eligible to play for the club for any uninterrupted period of two years since their 15th birthday (players aged 16 may be registered if they have been registered with the club for the previous two years) FC Porto are up against Juventus in the round of 16 of the Champions League, and Awaziem, who has previously been called to the Super Eagles, could feature.

Elsewhere, Arsenal included only two players of Nigerian descent in the Champions League roaster for the rest of the 2016/17 campaign.

The Gunners submitted an updated Champions League squad to Europe’s football governing body, UEFA, and despite having as many as ten players of Nigerian descent at the club, only two of them have been considered for a place in the updatedChampions League roaster.

The duo of Alex Iwobi and Tolji Bola are the only two Nigerians on the list, while theothers have been left out, including Chuba Akpom, who has left to join Brighton on loan.

Iwobi and Bola are also on the B list.

The Gunners return to Europe’s premier club competition when they face German champions Bayern Munich later this month in the round of 16 of the ChampionsLeague.
