Player Ratings: Barcelona 5-2 Real Sociedad – Denis, Messi shine

Barcelona 5-2 Real Sociedad Player Ratings
Barça qualified for the Copa del Rey semifinal for the seventh consecutive time after they saw off Real Sociedad 6-2 on aggregate in the quarter final.
A brace from Denis Suárez, coupled with goals from Lionel Messi, Arda Turan and Luis Suarez gave Barça a 5-2 second leg win after Luis Enrique’s men picked up a 1-0 victory from the first leg. Here’s how the Barça players fared in the 5-2 triumph at the Camp Nou.

BARCELONA 5-2 REAL SOCIEDAD PLAYER RATINGS

JASPER CILLESSEN – 7.5
He was impressive and inexplicably calm and composed in his area. Passing wasn’t top class but wasn’t bad too. The two goals he conceded were not his fault, his fine save to deny Willian José led to Barça’s second goal.
SERGI ROBERTO – 6.0
Another average performance, but still did not play badly. Didn’t add too much going forward. Was replaced by Aleix Vidal at halftime.
GERARD PIQUÉ – 70
Highlight of the game was a fantastic tackle in the second half.. He was good but did not do much to warrant a spectacular display.
SAMUEL UMTITI – 6.5
His tackle on Xabi Prieto led to Barça’s first goal.. Overall he was basic.. Positioning for the goals could have been better still.
JORDI ALBA – 6.5
Did not do too much in attack to cause the opposition problems but he kept his area secure during most period of the game, solid game.
ANDRÉ GOMES – 6.5
Wasn’t bad, but he could’ve done much better.. His passing was great but he played too carefully.. Worked really hard in midfield although he looked confused on occasions.. First La Real goal was his fault.
JAVIER MASCHERANO – 7.0
Started over the injured Sergio Busquets in the CDM position and he did impressively. Did not add much in attack but he was crucial in defence and his passing was great too although so many things were missing because he’s not Busquets.
DENIS SUÁREZ – 8.0
Started in midfield over Ivan Rakitic and he had a night to remember.. Grabbed two goals for himself and looked comfortable in midfield.. Link ups on that RCM position was great too.
LIONEL MESSI – 9.0
Did not want to stress himself as he’s saving his strength for the rainy day, but somehow, he was the star performer of the night. Got a goal from the spot and assisted two others in sublime fashion. Just too good.
LUIS SUAREZ – 8.0
Kept on fighting tirelessly in attack and finally got his reward in the second half as he scored to make it 3-1 for Barça.. He was lively, great performance.
NEYMAR – 8.0
Yet another fantastic display from the Brazilian who is having a great start to 2017. Was Barça’s liveliest player and he kept on working very hard each time he could. Won the penalty for Barça’s second goal. Replaced by Arda Turan in the second half.
SUBSTITUTES…
ALEIX VIDAL – 7.0
Replaced Sergi Roberto at halftime and he did better than his predecessor.. The right side looked more alive and he got an assist for the Arda goal.. His fourth in 5 games.
IVAN RAKITIC – 6.0
Came on for Mascherano and he kept on the cool of the game.
ARDA TURAN – 6.5
Replaced Neymar late on and got a goal for himself.
LUIS ENRIQUE – 8.5
Lineup looked crazy but worked well.. His subs also played a crucial role in the win.
THE TEAM – 8.0
Scored goals but wasn’t dominant in all aspects of the game.. Possession wasn’t quite impressive, but they got a nice win.
