Copa del Rey semifinal draw: Barcelona get Atletico Madrid

Barça celebrate against Real Sociedad

After beating Real Sociedad 6-2 on aggregate in the quarter final, FC Barcelona will now face a tougher test in the semifinal of the 2016/2017 Copa del Rey tournament as they have been drawn against bitter rivals Atletico Madrid.

The draw for the semifinals was made on Friday afternoon with Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Celta Vigo and Alaves curious about who their opponents would be.. It perhaps turned out to Favour Celta Vigo the most as they got their reward for knocking out Real Madrid by escaping Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. Celta Vigo will face Alaves who also will be happy with the draw.

The tie of the round is Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid, both teams definitely hoped to avoid each other but fate won and they’ll go head to head over two legs with Barça aiming to win their third consecutive crown. The first leg will be played at the Calderon on February 1 while the return game at Camp Nou holds on February 8.
