Super Falcons Retain AWCON Title

By Augustine Akhilomen

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have won the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations after overcoming the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon 1-0 in Saturday’s final at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Younde.

The victory makes it the 10th time that Nigeria has won the trophy since the tournament started in 1991 where they won the maiden edition.

Desire Oparanozie’s only goal of the match was enough to condemned the Lionesses to another final defeat after losing the title in 2014 to Nigeria 2-0.

Interestingly, Super Falcons coach, Florence Omagbemi has set a record of winning the competition as a player and a coach for the first time.
