The Super Falcons of Nigeria have finally released the African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) trophy they won three weeks ago in Cameroon to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), SR Sports reports.
The team have refused to release the trophy since their arrival from the tournament in Cameroon over the failure of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), to pay their outstanding Entitlements.
Apart from holding on to the trophy, they also refused to vacate their hotel in Abuja, demanding full payment of their bonuses and allowances from the federation.
But with the recent intervention of the Federal Government, by releasing necessary funds for them to be paid, officials of the team finally released the trophy, handing it over to the NFF Secretary-General, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi on Thursday.
According to SR Sports the decision of releasing the trophy to the NFF did not go down well with most of the players as they are yet to receive full payment of their entitlements from the bank alerts they got.
But the officials resolved to release the trophy to the NFF after holding it in their custody for three weeks. Meanwhile, Sanusi stated that the trophy will be presented to the government in the coming days after receiving it from the team.
