I wish to lay down Sword on the Pitch – Samson Unuanel

Erstwhile Chief Coach of Enyimba football Club of Aba, David Samson Unuanel has made it known that for the love of round leather game; he is willing to die as a coach at a ripe age.

Unuanel disclosed this while answering questions from journalists at the Osun State Sport Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) monthly forum in Osogbo.

While sharing his sojourn in the game in retrospect, he noted that injury forced him out of the game hastily;

“I picked up injury early in my football career. During the 1989 Challenge Cup match in Bauchi, in a match between Rangers Int’l and Niger Tornadoes.”

“I couldn’t venture into any field other than returning to coaching.” He stated.

While reacting to questions related to challenges facing Nigerian coaches, he opined that God fatherism is blight to coaching profession in Nigeria and sequel to this, a lot of coaches are not getting the needed recognition and recommendation.

“I didn’t have any course to regret of my chosen career, l have discovered and tutored a lot of players mainly from grass root because am a purely grass root man, l love this profession with passion and everything about me is football.”

While speaking with his intending move to manage a team outside Nigeria, the disciplined tactician said that he’s tired of working without getting his dues as at when due, he stated that over forty million naira was indebted to him by Nigerian Club sides.

“Its time for me to work in other African Countries. By the grace of God, I have offers in Zambia, Cote D’Ivoire, Benin Republic and South Africa. I hope to sign with one of them soon. I was in Zambia recently and I can say they are well organized than us here.”

“What is the essence of working year round and yet debilitated of taking your family for vacation abroad?” He queried.

He therefore commended sport writers for being his friend from day one. “You guys are doing a commendable job always, owing to the fact that you normally made us to sit tight and wake up to our duties.” He concluded
