William Troost-Ekong returns to Gent after loan spell at Haugesund

Nigeria international defender, William Troost-Ekong has returned to his parent club, Gent after ending his season-long loan at Norwegian side FK Haugesund.

Troost-Ekong joined Haugesund on a season loan deal immediately after signing for Belgian club Gent in July 2015.

With the end of the Tippeligaen ( Norwegian top division), the defender is returning to his parent club after helping Haugesund to a fourth place finish in the league and a place in the Europa League.

The 23-year-old who recently signed a new deal at Gent took to his Instagram to say goodbye to Haugesund.

“FK Haugesund it has been an amazing year. Top 4 finish and europa league next season,” the defender wrote on Instagram.

“I want to say a big thank you to my teammates, staff and of course all the fans! I couldn’t be more proud to have been captain of such a great club. All good things come to an end but I will never forget my time here in Norway. Tusen Takk!”

The defender was named the captain of the FK Haugesund side at the beginning of the season.

He will be the third Nigerian in the Gent side when he returns, joining Moses Simon and Rabiu Ibrahim.
