I thought I’ll be on loaned out – Iwobi

Alex Iwobi has admitted he never expected to be a first-team player so soon at Arsenal.

The forward burst onto the scene last season and has been able to keep his spot in Arsene Wenger’s squad this term.

He has appeared in nine out of Arsenal’s 11 Premier League games this year and he’s explained how that was beyond his wildest dreams not so long ago.

Iwobi told Arsenal’s website: “Honestly I didn’t expect to be where I am today.

“I thought a long time ago that I’d be on loan and probably get experience there before having experience in the first team.

“But the fact that the boss trusted me to jump into the first team as quick as I did, I’m just grateful for it.

“The same way I was able to break into it is the same way that I take the chance now.

“I play like it’s almost like my last game, I treat it like it’s my last moment here, so I do my best and I always put 100 per cent into whatever I do.”

Iwobi and Co face a difficult challenge this weekend as they travel to Old Trafford to play Manchester United. Arsenal sit fourth in the Premier League and will be looking to improve on their 1-1 draw with Tottenham last time out.
