Super Eagles chief coach, Salisu Yusuf has lauded the ‘workaholic’ impact of Oghenekaro Etebo in the team’s 3-1 win over the Fennecs of Algeria in Saturday’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
The former Warri Wolves midfielder, who had a decent performance at the Rio Olympic Games Men’s football, where he scored four goals in the Nigeria’s U-23’s 5-4 win against Japan in the opening group match, failed to make the 23-man list against Zambia due to injury.
His presence complemented the efforts of Mikel Obi and Ogenyi Onazi in the heart of the midfield against the Desert Foxes as he marked tirelessly to ensure Nigeria is always in possession of the ball.
However, Yusuf told Soccernet.com.ng that Etebo could become a main stay in the Super Eagles if he continues with his workaholic attitude.
“I am really impressed with the performance of Oghenekaro Etebo against the Desert Foxes of Algeria because he played according to the script. Besides, he formed a perfect understanding with the duo of Mikel Obi and Ogenyi Onazi despite coming into the team for the first time,” Salisu told Soccernet.com.ng.
“I am particularly delighted with his work-rate and I strongly believe he’s a player that would become an asset not just for the senior national team but also for his club in no time. Since Nigeria’s next game would be on August, 2017 against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, I just hope and pray that he maintains such fitness,” he said.
