Akinfenwa voted best foreign player in Angola

The exploits of Nigerian players in leagues abroad where they outshine other foreigners to be voted the best among their peers has continued.

The latest recipient of this honour is Nigerian-born midfielder Ibukun Akinfenwa who was voted the best foreign player in the Angola top division having helped his club Primeiro D’Agosto to win a first league title in 10 years.

Primeiro D’Agosto won the title having garnered 66 points from 30 games, two more than Petro de Luandawho, and finished four points ahead of defending champions Recreativo de Libolo.

Primeiro also scored 60 goals (the most in the league) and conceded 22 (the third best in the competition).

Ibukun was indeed a blessing to his team as his name suggests; playing an integral part for the Angolan military team thus he was easily voted the best foreigner in the Girabola.

Primeiro will campaign in the CAF Champions League next season and Ibukun is optimistic they can ruffle many feathers in the competition that will also have the duo of Enugu Rangers and Rivers United in contention.
