Jasper Cillessen in training for Barça |
The international break is nothing to be happy about except that it’s part of the beautiful game. It’s like an adventure where your players are taken and returned to you dismantled.
FC Barcelona stars Jasper Cillessen and Sergi Roberto left Camp Nou to represent their respective national teams but unfortunately picked up injuries during the course, reducing Luis Enrique’s number of available first team players by two for the club’s next game against Deportivo on Saturday.
Goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen who joined Barça from Ajax recently picked up an injury whilst with the Netherlands team and after tests were carried out on Monday it was confirmed that the shot-stopper suffered a sprained lateral collateral ligament of his right ankle and will be out for 3 weeks. He has featured for Barça once this season against Alavés and his role will definitely be temporarily taken by Jordi Masip.
Aside from Cillessen, Sergi Roberto also picked up a knock while with Spain prior to their game against Albania and the right-back has been reported to suffer from an elongation in the adductor of his right leg but a specific return date wasn’t announced as Barça confirmed his availability will be determined by the evolution of the injury.
Both players will miss Barça’s game against Deportivo, which means Aleix Vidal is likely to start for the Catalans after ages away.
