Arsenal midfielder, Mesut Ozil has revealed that Super Eagles forward, Alex Iwobi has a similar style of play like that of Austine Okocha and Holland’s Edgar Davids.
Iwobi scored his first international goal in the colours of the Super Eagles as Nigeria defeated the Chipolopolo of Zambia 2-1 in Ndola at a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Sunday.
Besides, he was a revelation for the Gunners last season, scoring crucial goals and making a few assists despite the array of stars in the team. He has also continued with the same rich vein of form this season, with his eye-catching performances against Paris Saint Germaine in the Champions League and Chelsea in the Premier League.
Iwobi’s incredible rise in the London club has caught the attention of Ozil, who said that Nigerian international could be compared to Okocha and Davids due to his style of play.
“Alex reminds me of a mixture of [Okocha] and Edgar Davids. He’s really strong on the ball, also defensively, but he’s good in front of goal too.”
“He knows exactly what he can do,” Ozil told Arsenal Player. “He isn’t scared and doesn’t hide on the pitch. He just wants to have fun playing football and that really shows on the pitch, and also in training.
“He’s developing really well and if he continues the way he’s been playing the whole season, he will really enhance his game. The manager knows exactly how good he is and I wish him all the best. He is really young and is on a really good path.”
