Ter Stegen to extend Barcelona contract |
It is no longer news that FC Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo will sign for Manchester City, this paves way for Marc Andre Ter Stegen to become the indispensable number one goalkeeper for the club and the German shot-stopper has taken the first step to enjoy his new role by agreeing to extend his contract with the club.
According to Catalan publication SPORT, Ter Stegen wants to extend his contract with FC Barcelona for two more seasons. His current contract expires in June 2019 which means the contract extension will be until 2021. Barça are keen on keeping their new number one for a very long time and will offer him a pay rise to stay at the club for at least the next 5 seasons.
Claudio Bravo will join Manchester City for around 20-25 million Euros, Barça will use part of the money to fund a transfer for Ajax first choice goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen. The 27-year old will arrive at Barça knowing there is no guarantee for the number one spot as that role is for Ter Stegen and is the main reason Bravo will be leaving the club.
According to the report, the deal has been agreed with all parties giving its yes to the deal and the official confirmation will be made by the club in the next couple of days.
Ter Stegen signed for FC Barcelona from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2014 for 12 million Euros in a 5-year contract and has shown himself as one of the club’s best deals in recent years as he’s one of the best goalkeepers in the world right now at 24 with world class shot-stopping skills whilst possessing the best feet amongst goalkeepers in Europe.
Ter Stegen was utilized only in Champions League and cup games for Barça and wasn’t happy with the decision of the coaching staff, threatening to leave. The club know he’s a gem and a quality goalkeeper for his age is rare in the market hence, they sacrificed Claudio Bravo and will renew Ter Stegen’s contract.
