Ter Stegen out of Super Cup with knee injury

Ter Stegen out of Spanish Super Cup with Knee injury
FC Barcelona will be without German goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen for their Spanish Super Cup first leg tie against Sevilla on Sunday after the player picked up a knee injury in training.
The Catalan club announced through their official website this afternoon that Ter Stegen developed a sprained ligament in his left knee during training this morning and will certainly miss the first leg against Sevilla at the Sanchez Pizjuan on Sunday.
The length or severity of the injury was not stated by the club and they insisted the player’s availability in the future will be determined by how the injury progresses although top Catalan source RAC1 speculate that the young shot-stopper will be out for at least two to three weeks which means he’ll miss both legs of the Super Cup and also the start of La Liga.
The news comes as a disappointment for Barça fans who were looking forward to seeing Ter Stegen start in between the sticks in at least one of the games against Sevilla.
Luis Enrique’s headache for contemplating on who will start for Barça in goal is now postponed. The coach has two wonderful goalkeepers at his disposal but it is unclear who will be the number one for 2016/2017 with the majority of the Barcelona faithfuls wanting to see the younger goalie take up that role.
Although it seems like a good news for goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, the goalkeeper will not be happy with the news despite the fact that he will have no major competition in his position for some time. Jordi Masip who took part in most games for Barcelona in preseason will stand as second choice goalkeeper for the game(s) but doesn’t seem to pose any threat to Bravo’s spot.
Get well soon Marc!
