Meet Quincy Amarikwa, the American born Striker who wants to represent Nigeria

American born striker, Quincy Amarikwa has expressed his interest to join the Nigerian National Football Team, Soccernet.ng reports.

The San Jose Earthquakes player who is eligible to play for both the United States of America and Nigeria hasn’t been called-up to any of the two National teams. He has however now committed his International future to Nigeria, and is hoping for a call-up.

Speaking with Soccernet.ng, Quincy said he would really like to play for his father’s country. He also said the reason he hasn’t been invited yet might be because people don’t know he is also a Nigerian.

“I would like to represent my father’s home country if given the opportunity. As of now, no, I have not been approached by Nigeria Football officials. This may be because they do not realize that I have my Nigerian citizenship,” Quincy told soccernet.ng

The 28-year-old has played his entire career in the US Major League Soccer, MLS, starting with the Earthquakes in 2009. Amarikwa was traded to the Colorado Rapids in 2010 and was a part of their MLS Cup-winning squad that year. He joined Toronto FC in 2012 before going on a two-and-a-half year run with the Chicago Fire, after which he returned to the Earthquakes.
