Diego Costa’s dramatic late goal ensured Chelsea manager Antonio Conte got his Premier League career off to a winning start against West Ham.
Spain international Costa latched on to a loose balland took his time before drilling low from the edge of the box with a minute remaining. Eden Hazard’sbullet penalty opened the scoring early in the second half after Michail Antonio had bundled over Cesar Azpilicueta in the box.
Hammers centre-back James Collins lashed homefrom a corner to level it up with 13 minutes remaining. West Ham offered little going forward until substitute Dimitri Payet entered the game.
The visitors couldn’t hold on to a point as Costa popped up with the winning strike after controversially remaining on the pitch following a nasty challenge on Hammers stopper Adrian. It was a good start for Chelsea, having three points from their game at Stamford Bridge.
