Claudio Ranieri agrees new Leicester city deal

By Dehinbo Timothy

Claudio Ranieri has agreed a new long-term contract with Leicester, according to sources in England.

The Italian signed a three-year deal when he was appointed last summer and has now been rewarded for leading City to the first league title in their 132-year history.

The legal formalities are expected to be completed before Leicester begin the defence of the Premier League away at Hull on Saturday

It is understood Ranieri’s new deal does not include a compensation clause should other clubs come calling.

The 64-year-old’s appointment as Nigel Pearson’s successor was not welcomed wholesale by Leicester supporters 12 months ago, but his achievements earned him the League Managers’ Association’s annual award in May.

N’Golo Kante is the most high-profile Leicester player to leave the club this summer.

The champions have managed to maintain the bulk of their squad ahead of the new season, with top scorer Jamie Vardy turning down the chance of a move to Arsenal.

Riyad Mahrez, the Professional Footballers’ Association’s Player of the Year, remains at the club, although France midfielder N’Golo Kante has left for Chelsea.
