The Flying Eagles were today beaten by a 10-man Sudanese
team 4-3 and confirmed Nigeria’s ouster from the Under-20 African Youth
Championship in Zambia.
Amuneke’s wards needed just a lone goal victory to qualify for the
tourney after beating the Sudanese 2-1 away from home and started
brilliantly as Chukwueze Samuel opened the scoring.
Sudan equalized but Funsho Bamgboye put the Nigerian team back in
front but the visitors again drew level as the half-time ended 2-2 and
4-3 on aggregate in favour of the Flying Eagles.
At the start of the second period Sudan took the lead but it looked
like luck smiled on the Nigerian team as the goalscorer saw red which
was followed by the equalizer from the home team.
But it all turned grey for the Nigeria side as Halid Abdamuleem
blasted in the winner to silence the teeming Nigerian crowd at the
Teslim Balogun stadium.
