Barca agree deal with midfielder, to sign contract on Monday

Sergi Samper to extend contract until 2020 and join Barcelona first team

FC Barcelona have reached and agreement with young midfielder Sergi Samper for a contract extension which will tie him to the club until the summer of 2020.
According to report from Catalan publication Mundo Deportivo, Sergi Samper will sign his contract extension for four seasons on Monday, July 18 after he reached an agreement with Barça.
The 21-year old Spaniard is currently representing FC Barcelona B and he will be promoted to the first team for the upcoming 2016/2017 season as soon as the contract is signed and will be made official on Monday.
Samper will partake in FC Barcelona’s preseason this summer but it is still unclear if he will continue at the club as MD report that he could go on loan if Barça end up signing Valencia midfielder Andre Gomes which is very unlikely to happen.
Barcelona B are currently struggling in the third division and the board are looking forward to improving the team with the aim of gaining promotion into the Segunda division so promoting players from there into the first team is difficult. They have already made a host of signings this summer with Marlon being the latest.
However, the case of Sergi Samper is quite different. The player has been at the B team for a very long time and majority of the aficionados feel he should’ve been promoted before now. He’s now captain of the B team and has all it takes to cover up for Sergio Busquets in the defensive midfield position.
Nothing has been made official yet, but Samper’s contract extension is certain to happen, it is his continuation in the first team that is in doubt. It will be good news if Barça decide to keep him as he has all it takes to succeed playing for Luis Enrique’s team.
