Robin Van Persie linked with Barça |
FC Barcelona continue their never-ending adventure in searching for a forward that would be fourth choice for the upcoming 2016/2017 season. A lot of names have been mentioned with the latest being Fenerbahce and former Arsenal and Manchester United forward Robin Van Persie.
Catalan publication SPORT have linked the Dutch forward with FC Barcelona insisting the player has offered to take the role of fourth forward playing behind Messi, Suarez and Neymar, a news that comes as a shocker to Barça fans worldwide as Van Persie has never been mentioned in the club’s agenda.
Van Persie had a good season in Turkey last season, scoring 16 goals after joining Fenerbahce from Manchester United in the summer of 2015. According to SPORT, Van Persie is willing to take up a new challenge and is finding a way out of Turkey due to the recent security and political problems in the country.
The 32-year old’s main option was to return to the Premier League but he sees it as a complicated issue and playing for Barça is one of his goals. He was offered to the club in January 2016 but Barça dismissed the possibility of signing him then.
Van Persie feels it is time to leave Turkey after being reborn as a player. Fenerbahce have publicly stated their unwillingness to let their man leave but they will have no choice than to let him go if they receive an offer of €10 million, an amount Barcelona will certainly not be willing to pay.
Van Persie is a great goalscorer and will be a good short-term fourth choice forward. What do you think about FC Barcelona possibility of signing him? We’d love to see your comments.
