NFF Must Appoint Credible Foreign Coach – Baruwa

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Abiodun Baruwa has advised the Nigeria Football Federation to engage a quality foreign coach capable of qualifying the senior national team to the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The three-time Africa champions face a difficult task of qualifying for the tournament after been pitted in the same group alongside Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia.

Despite Nigeria’s dizzy performances in recent games couple with their inability to make it through the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, Baruwa who was a stand-in goalkeeper at the Atlanta Olympic Games told Soccernet.com.ng that the technical committee of the NFF must select a credible foreign coach that would qualify Nigeria for the World Cup.

“I am not thinking about the 2018 World Cup but instead I am looking at the Nigeria Football Federation selecting the right coach devoid of sentiment that will take the nation’s football forward. But first, he must be a coach that will qualify the team to the World Cup regardless of which opponent we want to play,” Baruwa said.

“Besides, the NFF should stop this idea of waiting too long to appoint a foreign coach because time waits for nobody when other teams in our group are already preparing for the qualifying series.

“The bottom line as far as I am concern is that Nigeria must beat Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia wherever the games are been played for us to qualify for the World Cup.
