CAF Champions League: Enyimba In Dire Need Of Miracle As Sundowns Shock Zamalek 2-1

Nigeria’s
flag bearer, Enyimba FC will need mother-luck to sneak out of group B of the CAF Champions League as South
Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Egypt’s Zamalek 2-1 at the Petro Sport
Stadium in Cairo on Sunday evening, to move top of the log with six points.

Goals
from Tiyani Mabunda and Khama Billiat coming either side of a Mohamed Ibrahim
strike. The defeat marked the first loss for Zamalek after 16 games, which
included a 12-match undefeated streak under current manager Mohamed Helmi.
The
People’s Elephant now have a mountain to climb as they would need to win their
remaining two games in Port Harcourt against Sundowns and in Cairo against
Zamalek if the team must have any slim hope of qualifying to the knockout
stages of the competitions.
Enyimba
are currently sitting bottom of group B with zero point from two matches and
will be praying for Sundowns to also pick all maximum points in the reverse
fixtures on July 27 against Zamalek at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, knowing a draw
would seal the Brazilians’ place in the knockout stages of Africa’s premier cup
competition.
