Nigeria’s Super Eagles moved up six places in the latest FIFA Coca-Cola World Ranking that was released on Thursday in Zurich.
The three-time African champions moved from 67th to 61st in the latest ranking for the month of May, gaining three points in the process from 540 to 559. Nigeria are still however outside the top 10 in Africa having maintained the 12th on the continent.
Algeria remains the highest ranked country in Africa, and 32nd in the world. Followed closely by the AFCON champions in the 36th position; Ghana,Senegal, Egypt and Tunisia occupy the third, fourth, fifth and six positions respectively in Africa. Cape Verde Islands dropped from sixth to seventh position, while Congo DR, Guinea and Cameroon completed the top ten ranked African countries in that order.
The status quo remained in the world ranking; Argentina maintained the lead, followed by Belgium, Colombia and Germany. Chile dropped from third to fifth position; Spain and Brazil are placed in sixth and seventh positions. Portugal, Uruguay and Austria made-up the top ten best teams of the world. Meanwhile, the next world ranking will be released by FIFA July 14, 2016.
