Former Super Eagles goalkeeper join Ikorodu United

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper coach, Ike Shorunmu has joined the
top-flight newcomers, Ikorodu United as goalkeeper trainer for the rest
of the on-going season, this is according to supersport.com.

The Oga Boys have equally beefed up their technical bench with the
appointment of former Nigerian international and Giwa FC coach, Shakiru
Giwa as assistant coach.

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) struggling side had
early appointed the former FC Zwolle and SC Cambuur coach, Theodorus
Jacob de Jong as head coach in place of former Super Falcons and Warri
Wolves coach, Sam Okpodu.

The trio is expected to perform their first official duty in Sunday’s
NPFL matchday 25 Lagos derby between hosts, Mountain of Fire Miracles Ministries (MFM) FC and Ikorodu United at the Agege Township Stadium in
Lagos.

An official of Ikorodu United, Tunde Ayoola said the restructuring is
aimed at helping the side stave off the threat of relegation starring
the Lagos outfit in the face in the 24-week old Nigerian top-flight.

“Shorunmu and Giwa were presented to the team on Tuesday as goalkeeper trainer and assistant coach respectively.

“Shorunmu actually met with the players same yesterday (Tuesday)
during training to familiarise himself with the bench and players.

“Ikorodu United have a tradition of giving former internationals a
pride of place in the team so the newest additions is in keeping with
the house trend.

“Of course, their jobs are well spelt out to work assiduously hard to ensure the team survive relegation in the on-going season.

“Incidentally, all the appointees will be on bench for the first time in Sunday’s NPFL matchday 25 clash at MFM FC in Agege.

“We hope their experiences will signal an instant rebirth of the side’s fortune and firm path of survival.

“They are happy with the enormous challenge on their shoulders and promised not to disappoint,” said Ayoola to supersport.com.

Ikorodu United have garnered a paltry 15 points from possible 69 in
the 24-week old Nigerian top-flight with two games to spare at Lobi
Stars and champions, Enyimba.
