CAF Champions League: Enyimba FC,Mamelodi Sundowns Desperate For Points

By Augustine Akhilomen

Nigeria’s flag bearer, Enyimba international are in high spirit ahead of Wednesday’s evening CAF Champions League second group game match against Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Both teams are on zero point after CAF disqualified Algerian giants Entente Setif for poor crowd control in their 2-0 loss to Sundowns in the opening match, thereby cancelling the result of that encounter. While Enyimba lost to Egypt’s Zamalek 1-0 in Port Harcourt to place button in the group.

A win for either side could brighten their chances of qualify for the knockout stages of the continental football. The Aba Warriors who have appointed Samson Unuanel as part of the technical of the team led by coach Paul Aigbogun, knows that nothing but a win would be enough for them.

Meanwhile, Sundowns would be hoping to capitalise on their home advantage and vociferous fans in a bid to overcome Enyimba FC on Wednesday.

Enyimba defender, Idris Aloma was optimistic that the Nigerian champions will win the rest of their games and qualify for the semi-final. “It’s unfortunate that Enyimba FC lost at home to Zamalek SC in their first match in the group stage but it’s now important for us to win when they play against Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday,” Aloma said.

On the other hand,  Mamelodi Sundowns defender Wayne Arendse is expecting a physical encounter against Enyimba in their 2016 Caf Champions League Group B clash on Wednesday evening.

“Enyimba is coming here obviously to get a result because they are on zero points…we also want a result,” said Arendse.

“It is going to be a very physical game, at the same time it is going to be a good game as well.”
