Borussia to break the bank for Chelsea defender

Reports from Germany suggest Borussia Monchengladbach
would be willing to break the bank to sign on-loan Chelsea defender
Andreas Christensen, according to various reports.

According to the Evening Standard, 20-year-old Christensen – who was a
mainstay in the Monchengladbach back line last season – could make his
stay in Germany permanent after an impressive first season.

The Chelsea man is currently midway through a two-year loan deal,
with Chelsea also considering the possibility of bringing him back to
Stamford Bridge early.

But it appears the Bundesliga outfit have a counter plan as revealed by its Director of Football Max Eberl who said:

“We only spend the money we have. But in the case of Christensen we
are ready to make a record transfer. We know that a player with his
quality does not come cheap.

“Our intention is to try and get into talks with Chelsea in the summer,” Eberl told kicker back in February.

“Andreas fulfils everything we’ve seen in him. And we are delighted
that we were able to take him on loan without any ifs and buts.” Eberl
said told Bild.

Incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte may just decide to take him back sooner rather than expected.

Meanwhile, the player has remained professional amid the talks,
telling Sports Bild that he’s happy to play at either club: “I feel
really well at Gladbach, but the same applies to Chelsea.”
