Video: Cameroonian player dies during a football match

Dinamo Bucharest and Cameroon midfielder Patrick Ekenghas died at the age of 26 after collapsing on the pitch during Friday’s game against Viitorul.

Ekeng came off the bench in the 62nd minute of a televised Romanian league match only to slump seven minutes later and was immediately rushed to hospital,Goal.com writes.

The Cameroonian received CPR for 90 minutes before being pronounced dead two hours later, with his passing later confirmed in a post on Dinamo Bucharest’s Facebook page with the words:“We have no words to express our sadness at the loss.”
Play resumed after Ekeng’s collapse and the game was completed.
As a result, the Romanian Football Federation has suspended all football activities in the country, including the Romanian Cup final between Dinamo and CFR Cluj initially scheduled for Tuesday.
Ekeng played for hometown club Canon Yaounde before moving to Europe where he featured for Le Mans, Rodez, Lausanne Sport and Cordoba before signing for Dinamo at the start of 2016.
A similar tragedy had befallen Cameroonian football in the past, when star midfielder Marc-Vivien Foe died after collapsing during a 2003 Confederations Cup match against Colombia in France.
