Rangers have maintained top position in the Nigerian league despite losing 2-1 to Sunshine Stars at the Akure Township Stadium on Wednesday.
Sunshine took the lead through Samad Kadiri before Chisom Egbuchulam equalised for the guests via a well taken goal in the 40th minute of the game. Sunshine put the game beyond Rangers when Okiki Afolabi hit the net in the 60th minute for his eighth goal of the season.
In Lagos, MFM could not overcome Enyimba as the two teams settled for a draw at the Agege Stadium. The draw has given Enyimba four straight games unbeaten.
Rivers United defeated Wikki Tourists 1-0 at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt.
The victory means that Rivers have now won three straight matches after beating Rangers at home; Warri Wolves away and on Wednesday they added Wikki Tourists.
Coach Stanley Eguma of Rivers said told the League Management Company’s website, “We have been working hard after a hard start and we are now achieving some obvious consistency. With this kind of performance we can be sure to set out to fight for the league title.
“I commend my players and I give the glory to God. It was a hard earned victory. Wikki has proven that they are one if the best in the league. They gave us a run forour money.”
Wikki coach Maikaba said, “Rivers United presented a very good side and they deserved their victory. The boys are very good. I wasn’t surprised because I have worked with some of them before.”
