NPFL Match Day 18: Ikorodu United stun Warri Wolves

It was mid-week of surprises in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), as Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan without their coach Kadiri Ikhana defeated Abia Warriors FC 2-0at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.

Ikhana recently resigned from his position following the team’s poor-run of result in the league, but the Oluyoye Warriors against all odds defeated the Umuahia team.

Kabir Uma opened scoring for 3SC in the 50 minute; Muyiwa Lawal (popularly called Kokoro) doubled the lead for the Ibadan-based club in the 56th minute as the match ended 2-0 at full time.

Ikorodu United FC registered another surprise victory by beating visiting Warri Wolves FC at the Agege Stadium in Lagos. Fatai Oluwadayo scored a powerful free-kick in the 42 minute to hand the Oga Boys hard-fought victory against the Seasiders. Nasarawa United FC defeated Lobi Stars 2-1 at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi. Esosa Iggbinoba put the Solid Miners ahead three minutes into the match, dependable strike, Tony Okpotu equalized from a goalmouth scramble for Lobi on the stroke of 45th minute, as the first half ended 1-1. Shammasu Mohammed scored the winner from a rebounce, after Nya Dennis handled the ball in Lobi vital area in the 78th minute.

Bernard Ovoke scored the only goal, as Rivers United defeated Akwa United 1-0 in Port Harcourt. Afolabi Okiki became the hero after scoring a brace for Sunshine Stars in their 3-1 victory against Wikki Tourists of Bauchi at the Akure Township Stadium in Akure. Afolabi got his goals in the 29th and 53rd minutes respectively for the Akure Gunners, while skipper Abe Sunday added his goal in the 84th minute. Godwin Obaje reduced the tally for Wikki in the 40th minute, as the game ended 3-1 at regulation time.
Heartland FC and Plateau United ended their scoreless at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, The Naze Millionares saw the return of goalkeeper,Ebele Obi (elder brother of Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi) after he returned from suspension.

Meanwhile, the clash of the Elephants at the Kwara State Stadium in Ilorin didn’t hold as Giwa FC failed to show-up third consecutive time against Enyimba International FC. The League Management Company (LMC) is expected to make decision on Giwa FC
