The Garden City of Port Harcourt is the place to be this evening as former Eagles Skipper, Joseph Yobo, stages a testimonial match to mark his retirement and centenary appearance for the senior national team.
The event is being organized by the Joseph Yobo Foundation in conjunction with the Rivers State Government, as the 101-Cap player and long-time defensive stalwart is being honoured.
Coordinator of the event, former international Waidi Akanni, said Thursday all was set for a memorable testimonial match at the Garden City.
“About 10 players from various parts are already in town. Tressor Lua Lua, the Ayew Brothers: Dede and Jordan, Sulley Muntari, are some of the players already in town. David Moyes and John Terry will arrive Abuja today en-route Port Harcourt. We are set for this big event,” Akanni said.
Other superstars expected at the showpiece event include Samuel Eto’o, Didier Drogba, John Terry, Thierry Henry, Wayne Rooney. Mikel Obi, Ahmed Musa, Vincent Enyeama,Samson Siasia, Nwanko Kanu and Emmanuel Emenike, Vanguard reports.
Rivers State Governor, Barr Nyesom Wike, will kick off the encounter with a penalty match against Enyeama at the Adokiye Amesimaka Stadium.
Yobo had a distinguished career with the national team, featuring at three FIFA World Cups and leading the country to AFCON glory in 2013.
