Kelechi Iheanacho has a better strike rate than the brilliant Lionel Messi this season.
And the promising Manchester City teenager is also ranked above European greats Karim Benzema, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robert Lewandowski – and his Blues team-mate Sergio Aguero – when it comes to goals per minute.
The Nigerian whizkid scored a double against Stoke in last weekend’s 4-0 win, which momentarily sent him to the top of the goals-per-minute charts, above Barcelona ace Luis Suarez and Madrid galactico Cristiano Ronaldo.
But he drew a blank when he came on as a sub against Real Madrid in midweek and so dropped back down to a mere goal every 85.8 minutes.
That meant Suarez (83.8 mins) and Ronaldo (84.2) moved back above him, but a host of big names remain trailing in the teenager’s wake.
That red-hot strike rate seems to confirm what City fans have been saying all season – that Iheanacho is straining at the leash to play more minutes for the Blues.
Manager Manuel Pellegrini has kept the youngster back, and had preferred senior star Wilfried Bony – until Iheanacho was picked ahead of the Ivorian last week.
But the fact that it took Iheanacho just two minutes of Premier League action to get off the mark was a clue to his burgeoning talent.
