Cote d’Ivoire and Manchester City of England midfielder Yaya Toure has disclosed that Nigeria’s Kelechi Iheanacho is very close to him, adding that he is the 18-year-old’s mentor.
Toure who lost the 2015 African Footballer of the year award to Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyangalso promised to continue to guide they talented youngster at the Etihad.
“Yes, I am very close to Kelechi and he sees me as his mentor,”Yaya told SportingLife.
“I see him closely and I trust him and I have been trying to push him up. I know what I have done to encourage him to continue to believe in his talent.
“I see him as one of my younger brothers coming through one day. I hope that Kelechi can be one of the top players on the field in the future.”
It would be recalled that Iheanacho scored Manchester City’s second goal in their FA Cup 3 – 0 win away to Norwich.
The 18-year-old started the encounter and was on the pitch till the 85th minute, before he was replaced by Bersant Celina.
