The Nigerian international played all 90 minutes to help the Blues record yet another Premier League win and clean sheet over 10-man Arsenal.
The midfielder’s impact in the game was obvious from start to finish as he controlled the centre of the pack well, restricted the fluidity of Arsenal’s danger men and shielded his defence faultlessly. He was however booked in the second half for a foul on Alexis Sanchez.
Diego Costa got the only goal of the game in the first half after finding just enough room in the six-yard box to sidefoot home a pinpoint Ivanovic cross.
The Spaniard was also involved in the biggest talking point of the game that saw Arsenal’s Per Mertesacker receive his matching orders.
After timing is run to perfection to beat the offside trap and get to a Willian’s slide rule pass, Costa was hacked down by the big German. The referee wasted no time in showing the red card.
Mikel Obi has enjoyed a renaissance under Guus Hiddink, having appeared in all but one of all Chelsea matches since the Dutchman took over from Jose Mourinho.
The win takes Chelsea to 13th on the league table and knocks the Gunners off top.
