Manchester City teenager, Kelechi Iheanacho, will take no pleasure if handed injured star Samir Nasri’s Champions League slot in the next fortnight.
Nasri’s long-term absence with a serious tendon injury has opened up a free space and boss Manuel Pellegrini is considering adding another striker to his list of options.
The 19-year-old Iheanacho missed out on the initial group phase due to the Citizens having to work around their own foreign quota.
There are still question marks, however, regarding Sergio Aguero’s ability to stay free of injury and Wilfried Bony’s long-term future at the Etihad Stadium.
Iheanacho has scored five goals in 15 games this term, having been forced to press his claims from the substitute’s bench and the Cup competitions.
The Nigerian international insists: “European football is the same as any other football. If I am in the squad I will help the team.
“But I am sorry for Samir that he’s injured. He’s a great player, great man and friend. I’m sorry for him and I pray that he recovers soon.”
Iheanacho could be given a further chance to impress at home to Everton in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
Bony is still struggling with the muscle complaint which saw the youngster come in and score in the FA Cup win over Norwich City last weekend.
