Akwa Ibom Government Reward Akwa United Players With N2m Each For Cup Win

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Emmanuel Udom, has rewarded each Akwa United player with N2m and residential apartments for winning a historic first Federation Cup.

The Promise Keepers last week defeated Lobi Stars 2-1 in the final of the Federation Cup at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos with goals by Namso Edo and Abdulafeez Awakan, who was voted the most valuable player of the competition.

The governor who promised to reward the players with mouth watering incentives should they win the trophy in what was their first attempt, announced the reward when he hosted the players and officials of the club on Monday evening at a dinner in Uyo.

The governor, prior to the Federation Cup, also released huge sum of money to settle the players’ outstanding salaries, bonuses and allowances.

Former Governor of the State, Godswill Akpabio, also rewarded the players with N100,000 each for winning the competition.

Akwa United who barely escaped the drop at the end of the 2014/2015 season as a result of the feat will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
