Barcelona defeated Levante 4-1 in their fourth game in La Liga on Sunday but Lionel Messi reached a milestone that is rather scary than it was fascinating.
The star made the assist for Barcelona’s first goal of the game through a trademark pass to Marc Bartra at the far post. The assist was Messi’s 113th in his La Liga career and was his 400th direct contribution to a goal for the Catalans in La Liga.
Before the game, Messi had 287 goals and 112 assists which is 399 goals+assists meaning the assist for Bartra was his 400th direct contribution. Yes! 400 (!!!) in La Liga alone. The most amazing aspect of the milestone is that he achieved this feat in just 318 games.
Apart from the assist, Messi also got two goals for himself, taking his goal tally in La Liga to 289 and his direct contribution to 402 goals in 318 games, funny right? Yeah. This adds to the fact that Messi is the all time top scorer in the history of the Spanish La Liga as well as the all time top assist provider in the League’s history (as far as stats could go) and he is just 28 years old. He also has the highest number of goals in a single season in La Liga with his 50 strikes in the 2011/2012 season, a record which doesn’t seem to be broken anytime soon.
With 289 goals, Messi is now 11 away from reaching 300 goals in La Liga, a number which is just too beastly. He so far has 3 goals in four games this season and will be seeking to add a few more in Barça’s next game vs Celta Vigo.
