NPFL WEEK 25 REVIEW: Nasarawa United, Sharks secure impressive away wins in Kano, Bayelsa as Sunshine Stars crush El-Kanemi in Akure

Warri Wolves claim vital 1-0 over Wikki Tourists

Gbolahan Salami was the hero as Warri Wolves devoured
visiting Wikki Tourists by a lone goal at the Warri Township Stadium on Sunday.
The Super Eagles striker scored from
the penalty spot, his tenth goal of the season, after goalkeeper Emeka Nwabulu
had brought down Oghenkaro Etebo in the 34th minute.
The win put three points and a healthy distance between the
two sides as the race for Continental places hots up.

Sunshine Stars
annihilate El-Kanemi 5-0 in Akure

It was a goal rush in Akure, as league leaders Sunshine
Stars showed no signs of slowing down as they completely outclass their guests
by five unreplied goals, in a match that had 5,817 fans in attendance.
The enterprising Paul Onobi and  exciting winger Prince Aggreh bagged braces each,
while league top scorer Adeniji registered a goal as the Stars’ forwards ensured El-Kanemi
departed Akure as the only team to have conceded 5 goals in a game twice this
season.
Sunshine Stars prolific run also made them the
first team to hit the 40-goal mark this season.

Abia Warriors complete double over oriental rivals,
Heartland

In a rare of feat of invincibility, Abia Warriors have
notched a famous double over neighbours and oriental rivals, Heartland FC of
Owerri.
Chisom Chikatara’s penalty in the 18th
minute was all Ladan Bosso’s men needed to repeat a feat they achieved away to
their visitors in Owerri on match day 5.
Abia Warriors were the better side in an enthralling
encounter that had Heartland finishing with 10 men.

10-Man Dolphins scored a 1-1 stalemate in Enugu

A gutsy defensive performance ensured
Dolphins left Enugu with a point in the bag despite playing virtually the
entire second half of the match a man short.
Dolphins’ Ghanaian attacker Godbless
Asamoah drew first blood but Evans Iyoro restored parity barely a quarter of an
hour later.
Dolphins captain, Festus Austin, was
sent off by referee Garba Hamza seconds into the second half following a foul
on Ejike Aneke which earned him his second yellow card. It meant the men from
Port Hacourt retreated further to play deeper and more men behind the ball, as
they relied on occasional counter-attacks through the pacy Israel Abia.

Bayelsa United crumble at home to Sharks

The Water Lords were one of the two teams who earned away
wins this weekend as they stun their hosts by a lone goal.
Striker Christian Pyagbara got the all
important winner in the 66th minute as Sharks begin their march out of the
relegation zone.

Nasarawa United halts Kano Pillars invincibility at home
with a 2-1 victory

Two first half goals were all Nasarawa United needed to blow
away the Kano giants’ home invincibility on Sunday and end a 12 year unbeaten
run that dated back to 2003.
Rabiu Ali halved the deficit after the break but it simply
was not enough to salvage a point. The return of star player, Gambo Mohammed,
who had been sidelined due to gunshot received from a robbery attack from the
start of the season, could not lift the Baba Ganaru-tutored side as it look
increasingly likely that the defending champions would be surrendering their
title this season with Sunshine Stars and Enyimba
International setting the pace.
The last time Pillars lost at home was a 1-2 reverse in the
hands of Julius Berger, a feat dating over 120 matches ago.
