See why Bayelsa United is laying off 12 players

An imminent massive clear out of unproductive players looms like in the fold of NPFL side, Bayelsa United.
Bayelsa United which escaped relegation on the last day of the 2013/2014 season following a hard fought 2-1 win away to Heartland of Owerri are currently 16th on the log with 17 points.
And amidst their poor start to the season and fears of a possible race against time as was the case last season, the club’s hierarchy has decided to weed out players who have not contributed significantly to the team’s campaign this term.
About 12-15 players will be affected in this apparent house cleaning exercise.
Complete Sports checks in the camp of the 2009 champions reveal that the technical crew of the team headed by Evans Ogenyi, in conjunction with the Director of football of the club, have already compiled a list of the players to be shown the exit door any moment from now.
“Those that will be affected are players who have not played up to three or four games since the start of the season,” a reliable source revealed to Complete Sports.
“It is not proper to keep paying players who have not been able to play up to four or five games in as many as 16 matches.

“Their names have been compiled, it’s just that we’re waiting for directives before we take action so we can bring in more effective players who can help the club,” he added.
