NFF Query and Fine Falcons Coach

Ahead of the Super Falcons departure to Canada in preparation for their participation at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the head coach of the team, Edwin Okon, has been queried and fined an undisclosed amount by the Nigeria Football Federation over acts of indiscipline.
The coach allegedly released some players from the Super Falcons camp to go and play for his club, Rivers Angel, and was said to have denied their opponents in the match, Nasarawa Amazons, the services of their own players in camp.
Apart from releasing the players for the league match, he was also said to have presided over the match from the dugout. The action infuriated the NFF leadership who then demanded an explanation from the coach for his action.
NFF sources told Complete Sports that an undisclosed sum will be deducted from the coach’s salary as a punitive measure against his action which was considered to be irresponsible and unfair to other teams in the league.
Okon has been alleged to be in the habit of giving preferential treatment to players of Rivers Angels in national team selections. He is also said to be using his position as the Falcons coach to lure players to play for his club.
Consequently, Rivers Angels alone boast 80 percent of the players in the Falcons camp.
The chairman of the Nigeria women league body, Dilichukwu Onyeadinma, revealed to Complete Sports that they were forced to suspend the league because Rivers Angels have been depleted because of the high number of their players in the camp of the Falcons.
