Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) last night came to a conclusion that keshi should remain as coach of the Super eagles and made recommendation to the NFF to employ
Stephen Keshi as the Super Eagles coach.
Chief Felix Anyasi-Agwu, told reporters at the end of their meeting that a substantive national coach will be appointed before the international window of March 24.
Anyasi confirmed that the committee considered only Keshi for the job as he was the only person who applied for the post.
“The issue of Keshi contract had been discussed and it is left for the board to take a decision on it. There is nothing wrong with Keshi returning to the national post. He is only one person that was considered for the national job, ” Anyasi confirmed last night.
Keshi’ s future with the national team became speculative following his failure to guide Eagles to the Africa Cup of Nations which just ended in Equatorial Guinea. He was contracted on a short-term deal from September last year to supervise six qualifying matches leading to the AFCON 2015, after his contract expired at the World Cup in Brazil last year.
Meanwhile, President of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick, has stated clearly that the new coaching crew of the senior national team must restructure the Super Eagles with younger players.
The 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers begin in June, and Pinnick believes the current crop of players lack the zeal to represent Africa’s most populous nation, hence his desire to see younger players drafted in.
“If you look at most teams today, they consist of players between the ages of 17 to 22 years. Because these are players that are hungry for success, they are the ones for the future and this is what we lack in the Super Eagles.
“There is no hunger in this Super Eagles team and we are going to sit together and highlight these issues with the technical department and they will analyse it and see if it is okay for us to implement.
“We also have to organise technical study groups and so on and this are some of the plans we have for the team,” observed Pinnick who functioned as a match commissioner at the just ended Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.
